As the global pandemic continues to affect communities around the world, recent access to the COVID-19 vaccine has provided a much-needed glimmer of hope for a return to normalcy. While the vaccine rollout overall has had its ups and downs, some communities have had great success administering doses to residents. One such community is Larimer County, Colorado.
We are experiencing simultaneous crises in health, the economy, politics, climate change, and social justice—a combination few of us have experienced in our lifetimes. For some in our communities, survival is a daily challenge. And for others, recovery will be a long and difficult road. But it’s important for those of us in leadership positions to pause and think beyond recovery.
As the COVID-19 crisis and its economic effects continue to unfold, it has become clear that communities need to understand the job-related exposure and financial instability their residents risk to more effectively direct resources and support. To help shed light on these issues, TIP created the Occupational Risk Tool, based on the characteristics of occupations across the US. The health risk and risk to earnings scores, assigned by TIP, form the basis for the Occupational Risk Tool. Since 2006, TIP has been working in communities, regions, and states that are home to military installations and defense contractors. TIP is partnering with management consulting firm Kepner-Tregoe for our current defense industry adjustment project, which builds on the success of three previous OEA-funded pilot projects in Washington State.

In 2015, TIP Strategies was selected by the Washington Department of Commerce as the lead contractor for multiple phases of the state’s $4.3 million US Department of Defense, Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) grant. The statewide strategy and sustainability plan will provide a comprehensive blueprint for military and defense contractors and related support organizations to anticipate and mitigate potential losses through effective planning and strategic decision-making.
