Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, The Williams Companies, Inc. (Williams) is an energy infrastructure company with assets across the natural gas value chain, including exploration, processing, and transport. These assets include the ownership and operation of more than 30,000 miles of pipelines, including the 10,000-mile Transco pipeline which extends from South Texas to New York City. While the company is well known in its home state and in energy industry circles, it is less widely known in the economic development arena.
In 2018, Williams announced plans for the Bluebonnet Market Express (BMX), a pipeline highway that would connect natural gas producers in the Permian Basin with Eastern Seaboard customers, including Transco markets. As part of the initial planning for the proposed project, TIP president Tracye McDaniel was engaged to help Williams extend its brand in key markets from West Texas to Katy (greater Houston area). She provided public affairs and outreach expertise, helping the company connect with economic development organizations and chambers of commerce.
