Puget Sound Regional Council, WA – Economic Development Strategic Plan

The Puget Sound Regional Council engaged TIP to assist with the development of a new long-range Regional Economic Strategy for the four-county, central Puget Sound region, incorporating Seattle. The resulting Regional Economic Strategy is an active blueprint to ensure the region’s long term sustainable economic prosperity. It outlines the Prosperity Partnership’s initiatives for improving the five foundation areas of the economy: education and workforce development, business climate, entrepreneurship and innovation, infrastructure, and quality of life. Each foundation has a set of strategies – there are over two dozen strategies to achieve the region’s economic development goals.

In the 2013 legislative session, the Washington State Legislature provided funding support to four key regional issues highlighted the Regional Economic Strategy (RES): military, STEM, tourism, and maritime. RES initiatives supported by the legislature include establishing a new Director of Military Affairs, adding additional STEM slots at state universities and community and technical colleges, committing $1 million for the Washington State Tourism Alliance to get the state back in tourism promotion, and developing a comprehensive strategy to support the state’s maritime sector.
