Mitsuhiro “Mitsu” Yamazaki, a consultant at TIP, has over 7 years of experience in the economic development-related field.
Prior to working for TIP, Mitsu was a Vice President of Business Development at Pernox, Inc., an employment services and international business consulting firm in San Antonio, Texas. He was in charge of bringing new businesses, managing key accounts and handling consulting projects.
As a Vice President at San Antonio Economic Development Foundation (SAEDF), a private, not-for-profit organization responsible for attracting new businesses and industry to San Antonio. The organization has been responsible for the recruitment of over 300 companies that collectively employ more than 70,000 San Antonians.
Mitsu is fluent in Japanese, English and Spanish and assisted many international prospective companies from Japan, Mexico, as well as numerous U.S. corporations looking to expand or relocate to San Antonio and its surrounding area.
Mitsu joined the SAEDF after serving as manager of business development for Yates Construction Company since 2002. While at Yates Construction, he promoted the company’s construction services to industrial and commercial clients, with a focus in the automotive industry. The position gave him opportunities to develop a network of business professionals throughout the United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
Prior to coming to work for Yates, Mitsu worked for Entergy Mississippi Inc., where he developed the geographic information system program and facilitated the strategic planning process for several communities in Mississippi. While at Entergy, he also assisted in the location of tier-one Nissan automotive parts suppliers to Mississippi.
Mitsu has a BA in International Studies and an MS in Economic Development from the University of Southern Mississippi. He also studied abroad at the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, in Merida, Mexico, where he majored in Social and Economic Development of Latin America.
Mitsu was named one of the 40 most influential people under the age of 40 by the San Antonio Business Journal in 2004 and is a graduate of Leadership San Antonio program. He serves as a board member at the Japan America Society of San Antonio, the Alamo Asian-American Chamber of Commerce and the advisory board of Center for International Business and Economic Development at the Troy University. In 2006, Mitsu received a certification for Certified Global Business Professional from North American Small Business International Trade Educators (NASBITE).
Mitsu is originally from Mito, Japan, where he graduated from high school before arriving to the United States in 1995 to learn English. He currently resides in San Antonio with his wife Takiko and a daughter Mana.
