Meredith Whitten

Consultant


Meredith Whitten, a consultant for TIP, has more than 15 years of broad-based experience in the fields of public and legislative affairs, writing and editing, and research. Through varied professional experiences, Meredith has specialized in researching and analyzing complex subjects for communication to a variety of audiences, and developing clear solutions for strategic change and improvement.

Before joining TIP, Meredith worked as a policy analyst for the Texas Legislature’s Sunset Advisory Commission, where she managed projects to identify areas for improvement in state policies and programs; researched intricate and often-controversial policy topics; and built relationships with public officials, interest groups and private citizens. She recommended strategic policy solutions that resulted in fiscal savings, greater accountability and more streamlined processes. The State Legislature adopted more than 95 percent of her recommendations into law. Meredith also testified as a subject-matter expert before legislative committees.

In addition, Meredith worked as a public information officer for the Texas Department of Transportation’s central office in Austin, a policy analyst for the Wilderness Society’s Central Rockies Regional Office in Denver, a management analyst for the City Manager of Fort Worth, and half the editorial team of Texas Times, a Central Texas travel magazine. She has also worked as a freelance writer.

Meredith holds a Master of Science in Regional and Urban Planning Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Master of Public Affairs from The University of Texas’ LBJ School of Public Affairs, with a concentration on environmental and transportation policy. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin, where she worked as a reporter and copy editor for The Daily Texan. She also holds a certificate in public relations from The University of Texas at Austin.
